Artists Residencies: 2019 and 2020

We’re delighted to be able to host two sets of artists residencies, one in 2019 for local creatives from the South Lakes and Craven districts, and one in 2020 for artists from urban areas beyond the Lake District. The residencies will involve plenty of time outside, networking, mentoring, learning and reflection. In autumn 2020 work from all artists will be brought together at the Wordsworth Trust’s new museum.

The 2019 residency takes place in September, with applications to take part closing on August 6th. More details here.

Young People: Into the Outdoors

In 2020 there will be an opportunity for 16 young people from locations outside the national park in Cumbria to take part in a series of walks and overnight stays in the Lake District, and to work together to lead a Young People’s Assembly in Ambleside. It’s extremely exciting to be hosting this in collaboration with the the University of Cumbria. The shape of this will be determined by the people who take part …. watch this space.

Public Events and Walks

There will be a series of Sense of Here events through 2020, including public walks to suit a variety of preferences. Watch this space for details.

Schools – getting out, getting creative

In 2020 Sense of Here will be linking with schools around Cumbria for days of outdoor exploration and creative response. We’ll be leading walks with plenty of room for children to be led by their curiosity and reflect on the sensory experience of being outdoors; along with this we’ll have conversations about the different elements that make up a landscape, and take inspiration from the natural world as well as visual art and poetry.

Your place, your story

If you live or work in the Lake District and have a story about something that inspires or concerns you, and you’d like to share it, please get in touch. As we walk around Cumbria through 2019, and hold events in 2020, we’d love to hear from you, meet you, and feature your story about your place.

Visit the exhibition, read the book

In September 2020 the Sense of Here exhibition will be launching, and there will be a book. More details to come.
